The new manager touted to lead England’s ‘golden generation’ to the dreamland after a few thousand others, Gareth Southgate has once again stated that Wayne Rooney was absent in the match against Spain because of a knee injury and nothing else.
Recall that The Sun newspaper reported earlier that Wazziesta, as Rooney is fondly called by those who truly know his value as the king of the midfield, appeared to have been drinking heavily during a night out over the weekend.
When asked again in the post-match conference, Southgate said: “Wayne was injured. He picked up an injury on Friday, couldn’t train Sunday and that’s it.”
To be honest, one cannot entirely doubt The Sun’s claims considering Rooney has a lot to ponder and drink about. The only place he features regularly in the past few months is in bed with Coleen, as both England and Manchester United are desperate to create a future without him.
