‘No debate, just hand Ronaldo the Balon d’Or’ – Zinedine Zidane

Just to save you guys the stress of fighting yourselves on Facebook and Twitter in the days leading to the Balon d’Or ceremony where other nominated players, apart from Ronaldo and Messi, will attend in glamorous suits, family and a prepared speech despite knowing that their chance of winning is the same with us viewers at home, Zinidine Zidane has said that there is no ambiguity in who deserves to be crowned the best in 2016.

He said this at the post-match conference after Ronaldo’s hat-trick helped Real Madrid dismantle their rivals, Atletico and extended Real’s unbeaten run to 29 games in all competitions.

“I never had any doubts, and the three goals do not change this,” Zidane said. “He has shown his quality all the time, not just today, although it was 3-0 with his hat trick. For me there is no debate about who deserves the Ballon d’Or.”

On the win and their new four points lead at the top of the La Liga table thanks to Barcelona’s goalless draw against Malaga, he said:

“I am very happy, this is not easy, the result might be a bit hard on [Atletico], but few teams will win here 3-0.”

We suspect that in the next couple of weeks, Zidane, in the eyes of Madridistas and club journalists, will seize to be a manager with no tactical knowledge or experience. They will save the narrative until he goes through another purple patch, like every other manager with tactical knowledge and donkey years of experience.
