Alexis Sanchez has accepted a suspended 16-month prison sentence for committing tax fraud during his spell at Barcelona.

Sanchez was charged with defrauding the treasury of €983,443 (£874,810) from 2012 to 2013.

The Manchester United forward appeared in court via video link in January, pleading guilty to concealing part of his earnings from image rights at the Nou Camp.

The Chilean has agreed to pay back all of the money he owes, plus interest, and will avoid serving any time in jail.

As he is a first-time offender and his sentence totals less than two years, the punishment will be suspended.

Sanchez’s former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano have both also been prosecuted by the Spanish courts for tax evasion in the past year.
