Frenkie de Jong’s agent has refused to clarify whether there has been recent high-profile interest in the Ajax man.

Dutch international De Jong has been linked with Real Madrid, Tottenham, Manchester United and Barcelona, with the Catalan giants reportedly tabling a €30million summer bid for the 21-year-old.

That was turned down, with Tottenham reportedly lodging a €50million offer which led to Ajax placing a €75million price tag on his head.

Asked about the latest speculation surrounding Madrid and United, his agent Ali Dursun refused to give anything away, and bizarrely turned the questions to the player’s Eredivisie club.

De Jong’s representative told De Telegraaf: “I can neither confirm nor deny this.

“You should ask Marc Overmars. I send all clubs that contact me over to him.”

Whether or not Dursun intended to portray heightening tensions between himself and the club is unclear, but Ajax have always insisted De Jong is staying put this season.

Former Arsenal and Barcelona star Overmars, who is director of football at Ajax, recently said: [Barca] can try again for Frenkie in January if they want, but we won’t sell any players mid-season.”

De Jong though has suggested that a move to Spain is in his thoughts and last week told Ziggo Sport that he one day wants to play alongside Lionel Messi.

“If you end up in a club of a higher level, you will play with world-class players anyway,” he said.

“But I would really like to play with Messi someday.

“We were on vacation in Spain and my grandfather bought me Messi’s shirt with the 30, his shirt number then.

“My grandfather knew that I liked Messi and I wore that shirt all the time. Of course I would like to play with him. He’s already 31, so I have to hurry up.”
