Arsenal ‘rebel’ likely to do a Coutinho.

Arsenal look set to lose Alexis Sanchez ahead of schedule this month, with Manchester City back in for the forward.

The Chilean international came close to reuniting with former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at the Etihad on transfer deadline day back in August, only for the plug to be pulled on the £60m deal at the last minute when the Gunners failed to convince Thomas Lemar to join as his replacement.

Guardiola refused to walk away from the player, however, and while a summer move to Manchester always seemed likely, Gabriel Jesus’ recent injury has increased Man City’s determination to get a deal over the line this month.

Multiple sources are now in agreement that Man City will test Arsenal’s resolve with an official offer in the coming days, though the clubs do seem to be some way apart in Alexis’ valuation. Despite the fact that the 29-year-old will be out of contract in the summer and thus available on a free transfer, Arsenal are said to be holding out for around £35m. Man City, meanwhile, value him at around £20-30m given his contractual situation.

Much of what Man City would save on a transfer fee in the summer would likely go on the player’s signing-on fee anyway, so as far as they are concerned it makes sense to have him on board now as they look to close out the Premier League title and pursue the Champions League.

The two clubs will likely negotiate on the fee to ensure that a deal is done, though the transfer could be held up by the fact that Arsenal would want a replacement in place before agreeing to sell one of their star players. Lemar remains a major target, but Monaco have already told Liverpool that they won’ be selling in January and would likely tell Arsene Wenger the same thing.

In any event, Sanchez’s time at the Emirates is coming to an end, The chances of him signing a new contract to stay at the club are thought to be non-existent at this point, such is his determination to join Man City. The reports do suggest, however, that he would be prepared to wait until the summer to get his move if it came to it.
