With the Golden Eaglets having a great tournament at the ongoing U17 World Cup in Chile and looking good to eventually evolve into the Super Eagles in due time, let’s take a usual look at some Nigeria (present and potential) players doing us proud in their various clubs. Like last week, a number of the Super Eagles’ players put up impressive showings that can only accelerate coach Sunday Oliseh’s recovery and increase Nigeria’s hopes of beating Egypt to the AFCON 2017 ticket.
Odion Ighalo, Watford
This is the second time the 26 year old is making our top three Super Eagles’ top performers. The former Granada forward followed up on his match-winning assists at Stoke City last week to score both goals in Watford’s 2-0 victory over giant killers West Ham United.
His seven goal tally has now made him the top scorer by a Watford player in a single Premier League season. His consistent heroics has helped the newly promoted side improve on their best ever Premier League position as they currently sit 11th on the Premier league table.
Anthony Ujah, Werder Bremen
Werder Bremen might have found themselves on the losing side in the Bundesliga after a 3-1 home loss to the resurgent Borussia Dortmund, but one player certainly stood out for the home side – Anthony Ujah. The former Cologne hit-man cancelled out Marco Reus’ opener to take his season tally to five goals. He has now scored three goals in two games. Werder Bremen will need Ujah to continue his form in front of goal if they are to get anything out of their crumbling season.
Gbolahan Salami, Warri Wolves
While players like Brown Ideye must be recognized for his good performance in Olympiakos’ victory, Warri Wolves target man, Gbolahan Salami stole the march on him as he opened the floodgates in their 4-0 victory over relegation troubled Bayelsa United. As a result, the former Shooting Stars forward is now joint top scorer in the NPFL alongside Osas Ighodaro of Nasarawa United with 15 goals. Even though Enyimba have practically run away with the keenly contested championship, Warri Wolves will take solace in the excellent display of Salami and this will be soothing news for Sunday Oliseh and Nigeria at large.
