Gernot Rohr declares: NFF are free to owe me!!

After several months of staging a replica of the ‘ultimate search’, the Nigeria Football Federation finally appointed Gernot Rohr as the technical adviser of the country’s senior national team.

Given the fact that the President of Nigeria and London’s branch of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, had bragged that a top, foreign manager would replace YouTube expert Sunday Oliseh, the eventual appointment of Rohr was met with skepticism as he hardly qualifies as a ‘top’ manager. In fact, some cynics have suggested that the NFF only wanted a white man and as such, Adewale Elesho should have applied.

In any case, Gernot Rohr is gradually proving Amaju Pinnick and the NFF board right. The manager, according to sports journalist – Adepoju Tobi Samuel and China Acheru, said in his first presser ahead of the Tanzania game that he really doesn’t mind being owed.

Anyone with knowledge as little as Mikel’s career goals on the NFF will know that if there is anything they love more than issuing out communiques and touring the world, it – definitely – is owing salaries. Only recently did Samson Siasia, manager of the country’s U23 side, lamented non-payment of several months’ salary.

It appears in Gernot Rohr, they may have found a manager they can owe in peace while they fly themselves and associates abroad without him trying to ‘blackmail’ them into paying for service rendered in the media.

NFF likes to owe, Rohr doesn’t mind being owed. Looks to us like a marriage made in heaven. Or hell.
